It is with great sadness that we have to report that Dan Docherty passed away on 9th December 2021. His memory lives on through this website, his articles, videos, podcasts and in the hearts, minds and teaching of his many students and friends throughout the world.
If you are looking for a teacher in this style, then please visit “Where to Learn” “Instructor Listings” page as although this is not being kept up to date it will provide contact details for a number of his main students.
The PTCCI practitioners Facebook page is useful should you have questions.
It is almost 30 years to the day since the editor of Fighting Arts Magazine and top international karate fighter, Mr. Terry O'Neill invited me to do a long 2 part interview on Tai Chi in his classy magazine.
The excellent Andrew Davies provided the questions and Practical TCC became an overnight sensation.
For 4 years prior to Terry's game changer of an invitation, I'd been teaching in London, Brighton and Southend, but although I was well known in South East Asia full contact circles, I was a virtual nobody on the European scene.
The interview in Fighting Arts changed all that. Soon it became Finland, Australia, Sweden and a whole host of other places and people. I spoke to Terry on the phone a couple of times, but have never met him. In an interview once he related how Rose Li, who was something of a tease, punished Terry because he'd taken part in an international karate competition instead of attending her class.
He eventually concluded that Tai Chi wasn't for him as he felt it was something that you had to practice every day, whereas with karate, 2 or 3 times a week was enough to maintain a good level.
Wherever Terry is now, there's one guy from Scotland who will never forget his generosity. I've been grateful for 30 years and counting.
